Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? I am taking De Best Firewater “Shiloh”
What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths? She has a very strong personality. I’ve described her like Conor McGregor. She’s rude, disrespectful, not very approachable, but very tough and gritty. Her heart is her greatest trait. She tries her hardest every single time she goes in the alleyway.
How tall are they and what is their weight (thought it would be fun to compare)? I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly what she sticks or weighs, but she is small. I would venture to say she is one of the smaller barrel horses in the circuit.
What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2025 circuit finals? The most memorable was probably the last weekend of the season when we had to drive to both of the Bigfork rodeos and Spokane to hold my spot in the standings. I really didn’t want to put those miles and runs on my mare. It came down to the last run in Bigfork and I had ran her in Spokane that morning and she’d fell down and they had stopped slack. We had to load up and drive back to Bigfork right after that and I hated asking her to run again. That night, she won the rodeo and ran the fastest time of the two rodeos combined on the bottom of the ground. We loaded up and drove all the way back to Miles City after that and got home at 8am
How long have you been a WPRA member and how many circuit finals have you qualified for? 2X to the Montana Circuit Finals and 1X to the Badlands Circuit Finals. I don’t remember what year I bought my card. Probably when I was in college
When did you start competing in the barrels? As soon as I could sit in a saddle. I had a great Shetland pony named Candybar that was an awesome little barrel/pole pony.
Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines? I have done both. I am pretty partial to the Dash Ta Fame/Fire Water Flit crosses. I have four of them that I’m riding right now that I like.
What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? During the rodeo season I mainly just keep Shiloh exercised in the pasture and walk her thru the pattern occasionally. This winter has been extremely icy in eastern Montana and virtually impossible to ride outside, so I sent her to Ralph Young to condition on his aqua tred before the circuit finals. As for myself, I workout at our CrossFit gym in Miles City.
When you're headed to a rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? Parker and I are podcast junkies. The main ones we listen to are Shaw Ryan, Dale Brisby, Rump Chat and Let’s Freaking Rodeo.
What or who are you thankful for? My family
Do you have favorite spots to stop at or favorite snacks while on the road? We don’t stop much while we are traveling, unless it’s to unload horses. I keep my trailer stocked full of food I cook before we leave so we aren’t eating gas station food. My favorite snack would be the Goldfish concoction that Torrie Eiker makes when she travels with us!
Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? Parker and Willow and sometimes Travis Stovall jumped in with us. We always have our dog Sage and Shilohs buddy pony, Princess Buttercup. We drive a blue Freightliner and a 4 horse Elite.
What are your hobbies or other sports do you compete in? I enjoy reading, riding young horses, watching college football and chasing Willow around.
