Lindsay Karp 3-time Montana Circuit Finals Qualifier

Tell us about your horse(s) (age, personality, running style, where you got them, etc). Hess (Hesa Rare Runner) is 13 years old and he is more of a free runner. He is a very laid back horse, the only time he gets excited is sometimes when you warm up and right before he runs:). He has been the most amazing horse to run. Very special to me! Harley (Lenas Mijo Dulce) is 8 years old and is very athletic and powerful horse. He is the opposite of Hess.

What horse(s) are you going to be riding at the circuit finals? That is still undecided:)

Tell us about your rig and traveling partners. I drive a 2006 dodge dually silver pickup and my trailer is a three horse four star.

What do you like most about being on the rodeo road? It gives me time to think and appreciate my life.

What do you like least about the rodeo road? I am part homebody, I do miss out on a lot with family events. Makes it hard.

What was your favorite 2010 Montana rodeo/committee (what did the committee do that was special)? Any committee that puts effort into their rodeo is a favorite of mine:). I was impressed with the Glasgow rodeo this year, the ground was awesome!!!

What was your best rodeo moment of 2010? I would have to say Casper, WY and Great Falls, MT. I was very proud of Hess for running and winning with the best:). It was a pretty surreal moment.

Besides pro rodeos do you compete in other rodeo or barrel racing organizations? I compete in the NWRA. It is what got me started.

What are your rodeo plans in 2011? Well, this year I got to qualify for Houston again, so I think iam gonna venture out just a bit more than this last year.

What kind of tack and bits do you use on your horse? I use an Ed Wright pretzel with a German martingale on Hess.

What kind of saddle do you ride in? Charmayne James record breaker. Double J Saddlery makes amazing saddles!

What do you feed your horse? He is on green grass in the summer with partial alfalfa and in the winter he is on just alfalfa. I feed themStrategy with three different kind of all natural herbs..

What do you do for a warm-up and do you have any superstitions or rituals before a run? Just make sure he is flexed and listening to my body motions. I don't have superstions:) Just ask Julie Lenior! lol. But I do like a routine:) This year I definitely learned to not get worked up if I am running late:). Thanks to dating/traveling with a saddle bronc rider:).

What do you do during the week to keep your horse in shape? Just a lot of long trotting. I try to not over do the barrel work. Wanna make them want it.

Tell us about your family. I have the most amazing family anyone could ever want. They are so, so supportive! My dad is Jestin Karp and he is a plumber and my mom is Jolyn Karp who helps me with my five horses. She has been a big help with them this fall, I moved to Missoula this summer and she helps haul back and forth to appointments and such. I have an older brother who helps my dad, and gets to come along when he can. I have an older sister who is married with two kids and her husband is in the Navy. They live in New York, they are an awesome couple!!
