Theresa Walter 3-time Montana Circuit Finals Qualifier

Tell us about your horse(s) (age, personality, running style, where you got them, etc). My horse is an 8 year old mare named Licorice (Fames Licorice Kiss). I purchased her from Mountain Rose Ranch in Arizona as a 2 year old. Licorice is all attitude! She tries hard every time she goes in the arena. She is all HEART!

What horse(s) are you going to be riding at the circuit finals? I will be riding Licorice

Tell us about your rig and traveling partners. I have a 2008 Dodge and a Platinum reverse load trailer. I traveled this year with Ali MacCarty and Annie Novotny.

What do you like most about being on the rodeo road? I love to compete. I have also met some great people and have made some life long friends.

What do you like least about the rodeo road? I don't like being away from my home and my family.

What was your favorite 2010 Montana rodeo/committee (what special things did the committee do)?
It is hard to pick just one. This year there were so many committees that really went above and beyond for the barrel racers but I would have to say Libby. They really worked hard on preparing the ground and making sure it was even for everyone and their hospitality tent was awesome.

What was your best rodeo moment of 2010? I really don't have a favorite moment. After I broke my fingers and had to have surgery the doctors did not think I would be able to compete until mid summer so I was so thankful for every run in 2010.

Besides pro rodeos do you compete in other rodeo or barrel racing organizations? No

What are your rodeo plans in 2011? I am going to enter some of the winter rodeos and take it from there.

What kind of tack and bits do you use on your horse? I use a David Elliot gag bit.

What kind of saddle do you ride in? I ride in a Stoney Saddle

What do you feed your horse?
Grass/Alfalfa Hay and Strategy

What do you do for a warm-up and do you have any superstitions or rituals before a run?
I warm-up by long trotting and then loping some circles. I don't have any superstitions or rituals.

What do you do during the week to keep your horse in shape? She always gets a day off after the weekend then I try and exercise her every day.

Tell us about your family. My dad and mom live in Billings as well as my brother and sister. I have an awesome family. They are my biggest fans.

What’s your occupation, besides barrel racing?
I am the Executive Secretary for the Northern Rodeo Association.
