2021 Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finalist Joey Williams

Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? What are their lifetime earnings?

I will be riding Baybe Bullet, barn name is Baybe. She has earned over $120,000 in the breakaway and heeling.

What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths?
She has a very willing personality and loves to do her job. She is an easy keeper and likes her food.

When did you start competing in breakaway?
I have competed in Breakaway my whole life, probably started entering junior rodeos when I was about 9 or 10.

Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines?
She was raised by my husband and his family. She is by their late stud Frenchmans Bullet, and we have had several great performances horses by that bloodline.

What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)?
I try to exercise her at least 3 to 4 times a week, unless we are hauling to a lot or rodeos then I try to let her rest more on her days off.

When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books?
I like to listen to all of those. My favorite is podcasts because I love to learn new information from people that I look up to in the rodeo world. I also like audio books that help keep my awake when I am driving late at night.

Do you have a rodeo idol and reasons why?
I have several, it is hard to name them all. One that sticks out is Jessica Routier because she is able to make the finals while raising 5 kids.

Do you have favorite spots to stop at while on the road?
I love to stop and get a fancy coffee when it works out. I also get sick of gas station food, so if we have time I like to go to a restaurant and sit down and have a meal.

Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig?
I traveled with several different people this year. I just kind of went with whoever it worked out with. Mostly I travel with my sister in law, Ashley. I also travel with my husband but not as much since we can't buddy together with team roping and breakaway.

What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2021 circuit finals?
I had a lot of fun memories this year. I had never been to Western Montana and I got to make the trip a handful of times so that was really fun for me. Going to places like Missoula and Coeur d'Alene, ID were beautiful.

How do you juggle family life while on the road?
This is somthing I don't have figure out yet. I just try to take the kids with as much as I can or leave them with family members that they enjoy spending time with.

What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in?
I also barrel race and team rope. I played college basketball so I will always be a sports fan.
