Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? What are their lifetime earnings? Bugsy is who I’ll be taking to the Circuit Finals, $40K LTE
What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths? She is a very willing mare, gets a little nervous, but always does her job.
When did you start competing in breakaway? Middle school age I think.
Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines? We raised Bugsy, try to find a cow horse crossed with some running bred.
What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? We try to practice a couple times a week if weather is nice in winter. Summer is mainly just rodeoing so don’t ride her much in the practice pen. My daughter keeps her in shape doing junior rodeos on her in the summer also.
When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? Depends on the rig we are in, Sarah is notorious for no radio on. Jacey, Joey and I like our tunes, usually some random dated rap music.
Do you have a rodeo idol and reasons why? Rodeo idols are all the great breakaway ropers, they have done so much for this sport and I just love being a part of it.
Do you have favorite spots to stop at while on the road? Wheat Montana, Bozeman taco bus, Terry water spigot.
Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? Sarah V, Joey W and Jacey. My rig will have a few kids and couple dogs as well.
What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2022 circuit finals? 2022 was a good year for me, I had no real expectations going into the year, won Stanford and first round at Glasgow were highlights and placed good at Red Lodge, which was fun since it was the breakawayers first year there.
How do you juggle family life while on the road? Strap the kids in and hope the little guy sleeps most of the trip. It’s not always ideal, but I find if I leave my kids home I miss them too much, so I just rather bring them with.
What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in? Basically we live horses, kids rodeo, feedlot work, jackpots. It’s our life.
