Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? What are their lifetime earnings? Bridget – I purchased her as a 3-year-old, starting her ranching and moved into roping shortly after. She’s 6 now. LTE- $20K
What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths? Bridget is such a little sweetheart! She’s small but mighty! My 10-year-old daughter also uses her to barrel race and qualified in November for the Indian National Finals Rodeo. She’s as safe as they come- both my 7- and 10-year ride her around bareback and also saddle her up when it’s time to work cattle on our ranch.
When did you start competing in breakaway? Since I was 12 so 25 years now.
Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines? My husband and I usually purchase young horses that have a great foundation and ready for training. Most of our horses have come from Cowan Select Ranch. We like to get a lot of miles under our horse’s belt by using them to ranch on including gathering, doctoring, and branding. She is a Catty Hawk which goes back to High Brow Cat.
What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? Lots of outside miles on the ranch coupled with lots of practice days. My girls also ride her a lot to play tag, practice barrels, and just play around on. I also workout nearly every day, too.
When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? I love to listen to music and listen to Pandora most of the time. I like a wide variety of genres!
Do you have favorite spots to stop at while on the road? My husband and our two girls travel together so we try to make rodeoing as fun as we can. We stop at just about any fun thing we can whether swimming at a lake or waterslides or anything else.
Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? My husband, Nolan Conway, and two daughters, Addison (10) and Deni (7), and we often throw in Sammy Jo Bird. Ford F-350 from Bill Fick and Platinum stock combo. My husband is a calf roper, steer wrestler and team roper, I breakaway and sometimes barrel race, and our two daughters also compete so we are usually hauling 6-7 head of horses wherever we go.
What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2022 circuit finals? With this being my first qualification to the circuit finals, it was quite an exciting summer. Last year I was able to attend my first Pro Rodeos and was riding a young horse. I didn’t have much success. I took the time over the winter to better prepare for the 2022 season.
How do you juggle family life while on the road? Juggling family and work life while on the road can sometimes be difficult. I work remotely so often times I will warm up, join a meeting, then hop back on to rope. We also have a ranch at home that adds additional duties. Luckily, we are a family doing it together so always helping each other out.
What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in? Rodeo, ranching, and chasing my girls around to all of their events (dance, basketball, baseball)
