2024 Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finalist Ellie Meeks

Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? Foxy Rae (Ringo)

What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths? He has a huge personality and loves to do what he wants, when he wants. His strengths come to show in the box, he stands dead still in the corner and leaves too fast and hard straight to the pin which gives me a shot really quick every time.

When did you start competing in breakaway? I started when I was in seventh grade on a ranch horse of my mom's.

How long have you been a WPRA member and how many finals qualifications? This is my first year in the WPRA as well as my rookie year. First qualification.

Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines? I bought this horse about 3 years ago from the Bridgeman’s located in Manitoba Canada. I wasn’t looking at bloodlines when I bought his sight unseen because my buddy told me he was one of the good ones.

What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? We don't have a specific routine, during the season I try to not rope on him very much but to just long trot him to keep him in shape but keep the impact on his joints and muscles minimal for adequate recovery between runs.

When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? Our rig loves to listen to podcast, audiobooks, and a little bit of music here and there. We listen to podcast about roping, self improvement, and of course a little bit of murder mystery (which is not loved by all).

Do you have favorite spots to stop or snacks while on the road? My favorite stop is the Amish stores across the state to get sandwiches and milkshakes.

Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? I traveled with quite a few people this summer including Tiffany Ogren, her daughter Rylee when it worked out to hit some NRA rodeos, Shaylee Wahl, Jamie Haigh, and a few times Paige Camp with her dog Wilson who everyone knows and loves.

What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2024 circuit finals? One of my favorite memories from this summer was in Big Fork when we had enough time to run out to my family's cabin on the lake and surf for the afternoon. My brother and his rig also made it out there that day so it was cool to be at the same place at the same time at least once this summer.

What or who are you thankful for? I am extremely thankful for my parents for supporting me through my first year of Pro Rodeo, for the Ogren’s who opened their home to me and helped me grow immensely this summer, and of course I am grateful and owe everything to my big red horse. He carried me through the whole summer and tried his hardest on every single run.

What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in? I played college volleyball for two years and basketball in high school. I like playing in intramurals or leagues for either one of those sports.
