2024 Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finalist Paige Belle Camp

Which horses are you taking to the finals?
Hesa Smart Rocker, "Captain" 10-year-old gelding

What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths?  How tall are they and what is their weight? Captain is very quirky, cold-backed and marches to the beat of his own drum.  Living in Montana where it is colder on most days than growing up in Kansas has made for a big learning curve for both of us!  His strength is his speed across the line and how hard he tries for me on every single run.  Captain is 15hh and 1200lbs, he is a tank

When did you start competing in breakaway? 6th grade, Kansas Junior High School Rodeo

How long have you been a WPRA member and how many finals qualifications? I purchased my WPRA permit when I turned 18 and filled it in barrel racing.  Having the opportunity to rope in the WPRA at the rodeos is something I am truly grateful for!  I have held a WPRA card for 9 years. I qualified for the Prairie Circuit Finals 2x in the breakaway, this is my first Montana Circuit Finals qualification.

Do you raise your own horses?  Or do you purchase?  Are you looking for specific bloodlines? Caden and I have a mix of raised horses and purchased horses! Captain was purchased as a 4-year-old and my whole family (dad, mom, and brother (Logan), Grandpa John and Uncle Ryan) all played very important roles in getting him to where he is today.  Both Caden and I's families have bred and raised horses and we both compete on those horses in their respective events.  My parents (Kevin and Mandy Wiseman) are diligent about researching bloodlines and have helped set us all up for success with the horses.  Raising the horses on Caden's family ranch plays a huge role in the horses’ development.  It is very rewarding getting to compete on horses that the whole family has put time and effort into!

What are conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? Captain's renegade personality makes him a booger just to ride for exercise.  I will typically lead him if it is a day we are not practicing or at a rodeo.  I have also been known to bring a colt to lead him before getting on him at a rodeo (lol). Captain stays turned out, which helps his mental mind and body recover.  He eats Purina Impact Professional Performance and an alfalfa/ grass mix for hay.  For myself, I have taken up running and doing full body workouts to keep in competitive shape!

When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? I enjoy listening to rodeo podcasts and podcasts about current events.  There is so much to be learned from listening to others!  It is a great opportunity to grow.

Do you have favorite spots to stop or snacks while on the road? Wheat Montana!  I am a Town Pump girlie if I need fuel.

Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? This summer, Tiffany Ogren called and welcomed me with open arms to her rig! I am so thankful for her and Ellie Meeks for adding me to their buddy group this summer. Caden Camp (my husband), Jake Nelson and I have also gone many, MANY miles together. Having your support system is so crucial and I am thankful for mine! Growing up I got to travel with my parents who hauled me thousands of miles, which I’ll always be thankful for. To this day dad and mom will hop on a plane and jump in the truck to help me drive and cheer me on. I am always thankful for this time with them!  My trusty sidekick, Wilson (8-year-old basset hound) made the move to Belgrade and the Montana Circuit with me this summer. He has gone to rodeos from Washington to Florida.  He is a true road warrior (inset picture at Pendleton Roundup)! I travel in a '23 Ford and a 4-Horse Twister Trailer.

What are your favorite memories/ highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2024 circuit finals? White Sulphur Springs this fall was my favorite rodeo memory.  I had to win a good check at that rodeo to have a shot to qualify for the MPRCF.  Caden got to be there to push for me and I ended up winning enough to put me in the top 12.  This being my first year in the Montana Circuit brought on many new challenges that elevated my roping for myself and my horse.  Longer scores, bigger cattle and TOUGH competition the whole summer.  I have said many times that living in Montana on a ranch has made me a tougher person and competitor, all for the good!

What or who are you thankful for? Jesus, my husband (Caden Camp), my family, my horses and my health.

What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in? Helping Caden and working on the family ranch!  Caden took me to move my first cow in September of 2022, we rode 19 miles.  It was a LONG day but it sure has made every other day seem like a piece of cake!  I love getting to go with him and ride our colts and spend the day helping him.
