Which horse(s) are you taking to the finals? Leos Rare News “Turbo”
What is unique about their personality and what are their strengths? How tall are they and what is their weight (thought it would be fun to compare)? Turbo is the friendliest horse and nickers every time he sees me. He does exactly as asked. He is brown but changes color to an almost buckskin and sometimes looks grulla. He is just over 15 hands and is a stout 1200 pounds after his time off.
When did you start competing in barrels? I started in November of 2019 when I realized Turbo was more than just an O-Mok-See horse. I had never barrel raced, so it was the blind leading the blind for sure.
How long have you been a WPRA member and how many circuit finals have you qualified for? I ran in 2022 for limited rodeos on a permit and then again in 2023. This year was my first year with a Pro card and making the circuit finals.
Do you raise your own horses? Or do you purchase? Are you looking for specific bloodlines? I bred my husband's lil cow horse to a stud whose breeding fee I won in a silent auction. Seems it was a great cross.
What are your conditioning and workout routines for both you and your horse(s)? Turbo gets mountain work and we have a hay field we ride in. We rotate and work him 4 to 5 days a week. Personally, I lift weights at least 4 days a week doing it to "failure." I walk daily for at least 45 minutes and ride bareback all winter to stay balanced.
When you're headed to the rodeo what do you listen to: inspirational podcasts, music, audio books? I pray. I have one song I listen to before I ride called “Lose Yourself.”
What or who are you thankful for? I am thankful for my husband who took care of everything at home, my truck and my trailer.
Do you have favorite spots to stop at or snacks while on the road? No, I am pretty good at eating clean and I carry food with me.
Who do you travel with (including pets or companion horses) and in what kind of rig? I have a one-ton Chevy and travel with my German Shepard and Belgian Malinois
What are your favorite memories/highlights and obstacles you faced getting to the 2024 circuit finals? Every race is different, and I got lost a lot LOL. I always made it to my destination and ran at Pendelton for the first time. It was amazing!
What are your hobbies or other sports you compete in? I raise and train colts and O-Mok-See with my daughter and grandkids.
